Education Programme Updates - Love and celebrations at Mercury Holidays - TFT International Preschool

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and at the heart of Pinkanda village lies Mercury Holidays - TFT International Preschool, a special place of joy and education for 39 of the community's youngest children. Recently, the preschool hosted a traditional celebration that brought families and friends together in a vibrant display of cultural heritage. The event was a beautiful blend of traditional festivities, offering a moment to honour the rich customs that bind the village community in such a caring and loving way.

One of the unforgettable highlights of the day was the appearance of Mr. Percy’s decorated tractor, which added a touch of magic to the celebration. The children were delighted by this special attraction, sparking their imaginations and bringing huge smiles all around.

Adding even more excitement to this lovely event was a visit from our dedicated volunteer, Dilina Ostborn, and her son Noah. They kindly donated new books to the preschool, helping to enrich the learning experiences of the children. As if that weren’t enough, they treated all the children to ice cream—a rare and much-appreciated indulgence for the little ones!

Whether it’s the taste of ice cream, the joy of receiving new books, or the thrill of a decorated tractor—these simple things will be remembered by the children for years to come. This event not only brought the community closer but also showed the enduring support and commitment of those who help shape the lives of the children at the preschool, made possible by our patron Martin Bugeja, Chairman of Mercury Holidays.

It was heartwarming to see Piyumi, our first reunited child thriving as a confident, happy classroom assistant. The children absolutely adore her, and this connection has given her the boost in confidence and self-esteem to fulfil her dream and start art college this November—a huge milestone she’s courageously attempting again, thanks to the encouragement, patience and love of the village surrounding her.

Roshan said, “In January 2025, the preschool will celebrate its 10th anniversary, and now my second child is here. Since the beginning, Mercury Holidays has provided exceptional service to the village and our country by supporting this preschool. This institution has consistently delivered high-quality services to children of all age groups, where some children have the chance to win scholarships. On behalf of all the parents, I sincerely want to express our gratitude.”

The headteacher of Vidyathilaka College was determined to express her gratitude to TFT on film for the invaluable support received over the past 11 years.

Thanks to TFT's assistance—including the creation of an English language activity room, the provision of wifi-enabled laptops, school books, and other essential resources—she said she was able to grow the school from just 3 children to an impressive 112, and the school is achieving exceptional results. The depth of her appreciation left us deeply moved, especially upon learning that she had suffered a heart attack only days earlier and was scheduled for surgery in two days. Her resilience and dedication were both humbling and inspiring.
